Creative References for Nihariely's Spatial Adventure

There weren’t a lot of them since it all was set up from the lore, mechanics and workflow of my previous works, but it is cool to mention them:

When pitching for the first time the game

The idea of developing an Action Point Management type of game was after the visual novels that have a time management system; and let me wondering if I could do a simulation game in that sense using the Rpg Maker Mv engine but with isometric perspective.

Dungeon of the Endless

The mechanic of taking the pulsating core and run away towards the exit of the abandoned cargo ships was inspired by the game called: Dungeon of the Endless (where one takes the crystal and runs away to the final room). At the end I had to discard a lot of such inspired implementation to fit the game coherent progress, since for example, is not much about rushing to the exit but to loot the cargo starship with the remaining time.

Ocarina of Time and Pokemon first games

A lot of NPCs that are static and give the player feedback about the world are inspired from Ocarina of Time and the Pokemon first games; I refer to the dialogue and narrative style of them; interestingly the process was like a muscular memory, like I was remembering the feeling of those games when writing the dialogues.

I wonder who was the first person who developed that written narrative style, I don’t have idea of who was it, you know: you press a  button and then the dialogue appears and ends with intrigue as if you actually talked somehow; also the information has to be so well synthetized and relevant in order to work. The effect is bigger if the NPCs have an emotional impact in the player but that is harder to get.

Pokemon Gold and Silver

Finally the last external creative reference was in the tutorial scene that explains the starship resource management mechanics to the player, it was inspired from Pokemon Gold, the old man NPC tutorial in the first city the player visits.  After getting the example I just had to works things out. Interestingly, this part manifested in my head as if it were a real conversation and was done it fluidly in a single take; it was so fun to create.

Previous works

In this game you can see a lot of stuff from Intergalactic Traveler: the Omega Sector and the Astrolarix, that is not a coincidence, hope in the future at least one player notices the chronology of events behind the games.
